Books, The Other Stuff

Literary Quotes About Me

When faced with ten questions and a Liebster award (shoutout to The Library Lizard who tagged me and has a great blog with all kinds of bookish stuff), I decided to answer each of the questions with book quotes (and one movie quote) since I don’t normally like blogging directly about myself.  Plus, I’ll be killing two birds with one stone by posting some great quotes! (I’m violent that way.)

1. What is one of your favourite quotes from a book?

“First Murderer: (Stabbing him) Young fry of treachery!

Son: He has kill’d me, mother.” —Macbeth (I originally posted this quote here.)

YOUNG FRY OF TREACHERY

Also these hilarious quotes from The Importance of Being Earnest.

2. Favourite animal/creature from a book? (e.g. hippogriffs from Harry Potter)

“All I saw was a white blur before the door was flung wide. I stepped back and something large and wet brushed by me. I turned to stare at an enormous white bear standing in the middle of the great room. The wind howled in, spewing cold rain, but we were unaware of it.” –East, by Edith Pattou (based on the fairy tale East of the Sun and West of the Moon)

3. Do you prefer to read at night or in the morning?

“Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” –Dylan Thomas

4. What three adjectives/traits would you use to describe yourself?

1.“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us.” –A Tale of Two Cities

2.“The smallest one was Madeline.” –Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans

3.“It seemed as if a linnet had hopped to my foot and proposed to bear me on its tiny wing. I was surly; but the thing would not go: it stood by me with strange perseverance, and looked and spoke with a sort of authority.” –Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre

5. What’s your bookish pet peeve?

“Doubt thou the stars are fire; Doubt that the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt I love.” –Hamlet

(I can quote this because I love Hamlet, but generally speaking I’m not a fan of over-the-top, love-at-first-sight romance stuff.)

6. You can only read one genre of book for the rest of your life: which genre would it be?

“When the battles are fought and won and lost, when the pirates find their treasures and the dragons eat their foes for breakfast with a nice cup of Lapsang souchong, someone needs to tell their bits of overlapping narrative. There’s magic in that.” –The Night Circus

7. Is there a book/series that you really liked but that had an ending you hated?

“’No, I don’t think so,’ said Hermione composedly.” –Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

What’s your Hogwarts house?

“Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you’ve a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind” –Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

8. Do you have a favourite film or T.V. show?

“I needed to think about last night. So I galloped into a wooded glen, and after punch-dancing out my rage and suffering an extremely long and very painful fall, I realized what has to be done.” –Hot Rod

9. What’s your favourite part of blogging?

  1. That was so neat. Thanks for sharing those quotes. I especially liked your answers to #4 (the traits). Sounds like it might be hard to find appropriate quotes for that. (Well, it would be for me.) You did really well. 🙂

    1. Thanks! Yeah, the traits section was probably what tripped me up the most. But when I thought of the Dickens one in particular I got excited! It really worked for me! Thanks for commenting and I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
