“Tip of My Tongue” by The Civil Wars makes me think of Jane and Mr. Rochester. A love song in the form of a duet, tinged with mystery…
From Jane Eyre, spoken by Mr. Rochester to Jane:
“When you came upon me in Hay Lane last night, I thought unaccountably of fairy tales, and had half a mind to demand whether you had bewitched my horse: I am not sure yet.”
Yay or nay?
Oh my goodness, I love love LOVE The Civil Wars. And this song?! PERFECT for Jane Eyre. Yes. Epic choice!

I’m writing an essay on ‘Jane Eyre’ now for my masters. There’s a good book on the art it has inspired — including music — called ‘The Bronte Myth’ by Lucasta Miller. I flicked through it in a bookshop yesterday. It was filed under Literary Biography.

That sounds really interesting! I love looking at how art overlaps. Thanks and good luck on your thesis!

I hadn’t heard this song before but just after the first 20 seconds I knew I would love it. Excellent choice for Jane Eyre, agreed! It would be interesting to do a whole playlist of modern songs that fit the mood/themes of the book 🙂
