Book nerd, PhD student of Music Theory and Cognition, and lover of all things creative.
I enjoy pushing boundaries by mixing and matching literature and music (both within and between genres) to give a fresh and creative perspective. I use books and music as diving boards to plunge into the cosmic pool that encompasses anything and everything that can be imagined. You know, in a light-hearted, casual way.
When I’m not reading or listening to music you can find me playing board games, learning songs on electric guitar, and building one-eyed LEGO hybrid animals.
You are an inspiring young woman Aubrey. I think we have lots in common! I write fiction and poems inspired by my listenings to classical music (especially Beethoven..). How wonderful you are studying Piano- I’m a beginner on Piano. I look forward to more of your blog posts.

Thank you so much! I just think that classical music has the potential to be so enjoyable to so many people. It has such a stuffy feeling for most people when it doesn’t have to be that way at all! Thank you again, and I look forward to reading your blog posts, as well!

Oh it is far from stuffy Aubrey! It is exciting, spiritual, inspiring…I can’t imagine how anyone could find this genre of music boring, or old fashioned..yet I hear people say it a lot. I am having a Felix Mendelssohn night lol..listening to his Fingal’s Cave and just posted about his artworks- wow he was so talented!

You have a lovely blog, Aubrey. I also use music to inspire my writing, particularly when I’m putting a very emotional scene together.

Hi Aubrey,
Thanks for visiting my site. I am glad you liked my guest author’s new post about how to get readers to stay on your blog.
I play a little piano. I love it. I saw Jane Eyre in your sidebar. A favorite of mine.

After reading this “About” page, I feel that you’ll definitely enjoy Philip Glass’s memoir. He strived to create new music stemming from classical vein. I’m only 120 pages into the book (about a quarter) and I’ve collected so many quotes. One of them is this: “For me music has always been about lineage. The past is reinvented and becomes the future. But the lineage is everything.” I’m glad you landed on my Pond (Ripple Effects) so I get to know your blog. 🙂

I’m really intrigued by minimalism so it does sound interesting! I love that quote. It reminds me of how “originality” isn’t really a thing because every “new” idea just takes preexisting ideas and combines them in new ways. I’m glad you like my blog and I hope you continue to enjoy it! 🙂

I agree with you that classical music tells stories. I studied piano for years and I remember my teacher having my piano class listen to a piece and then tell the class the story we heard. I still think about that when I listen!

That’s really interesting! I’ve never heard of anyone else actively asking people to imagine stories in the music, so that’s really exciting to hear! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you enjoy the blog. 🙂

Whenever I’m stressed or nervous (which is a lot) I find classical music very serene and relaxing to me. I’m not a huge fan (I’m a Country Girl) but I do enjoy listening to it. ~Anne

Same! I find a lot of classical music is really good for that, especially Chopin nocturnes. 🙂

Oh, really? I’m not really sure of who I’ve listened to…..it was just on a radio station that I found. even before I listened to it I figured it must be pretty calming. cause Dr. Ben Carson listened to it when doing surgery to help him relax.

I love what you are doing! I play music of various kinds in my high school English classroom (seniors, all) and when I play classical, they begin to tell stories. Somehow, the music draws memories from them and I sit back and listen to the little moments of their childhoods when they are supposed to be working on the assignment of the day. I just smile and let them go – it is beautiful! 🙂
